McClaren waits on Schwarzer
Middlesbrough boss Steve McClaren will make a late check on goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer before deciding whether or not to include him in the squad for Sunday’s Barclays Premiership match with West Brom.
The Australian international has missed the last two games with a shoulder injury sustained while playing for his country and compatriot Brad Jones has deputised in his absence, and was superb in last night’s goalless UEFA Cup draw with AZ Alkmaar in Holland.
Fabio Rochemback, who is ineligible to play in Europe, is available again and Gaizka Mendieta is battling against a calf problem, while the rested Gareth Southgate, Franck Queudrue, Stuart Parnaby and Aiyegbeni Yakubu will hope to return to the starting line-up.
Provisional squad: Schwarzer, Jones, Knight, Parnaby, Queudrue, Pogatetz, Southgate, Ehiogu, Riggott, Bates, Doriva, Boateng, Mendieta, Rochemback, Kennedy, Morrison, Johnson, Nemeth, Maccarone, Hasselbaink, Viduka, Yakubu.
