Hanafin promises boost to male teacher numbers
23/11/2005 - 11:55:49Education Minister Mary Hanafin has promised to take action to attract more men into primary school teaching.
Ms Hanafin made the vow today while publishing a report recommending a number of measures to achieve this aim.
The recommendations include a campaign to promote primary teaching as a profession and the setting of targets for increasing the number of male teachers.
Today's report said men currently made up just 18% of teachers, compared to 30% in the 1970s.
