Saudi man beheaded for murder
A Saudi man was beheaded today after he was convicted of murder.
Ahmed bin Faisal al-Otaibi was found guilty of fatally shooting Raed bin Abdullah al-Bakri following an argument, an Interior Ministry statement said. He was executed in Riyadh.
Yesterday, Mohammed bin Ali al-Kahali, a Yemeni, was beheaded after he was convicted of murdering compatriot Saleh bin Ahmed al-Kahali by striking him repeatedly on the head with a cleaver following an argument, the statement said. He was executed in the southern city of Najran.
So far this year, 67 people have been executed in Saudi Arabia. Last year, 35 people were executed in the kingdom and 52 in the year 2003.
Saudi Arabia follows a strict interpretation of Islam under which people convicted of murder, drug trafficking, rape and armed robbery can be executed.
