McKernan rewarded with Antrim job

22/11/2005 - 13:27:36
Antrim GAA's Management Committee have announced that Jim McKernan has been appointed as the county's new senior hurling manager, "subject to ratification by the Antrim County Committee".

The Patrick Sarsfields clubman was backed to succeed Dinny Cahill, who quit in July, at a meeting of the Management Committee last night.

A former manager of the Antrim minor, Under-21 and intermediate hurlers, McKernan beat off stiff competition for the role from Ger Rogan, a selector under Cahill, who publicly admitted his interest yesterday. Former All-Star Paul McKillen was also eyeing up the vacant post.

The Saffrons' County Committee meeting, where club delegates come together, will be held next Tuesday, November 29.

The Antrim senior hurlers are back in competitive action on January 29, facing Offaly in the Walsh Cup.
