Coulter facing groin op
With his club season finished with Mayobridge, Down forward Benny Coulter is set to undergo surgery on a groin injury.
Coulter, who scored two goals for Ireland in the recent International Rules first Test against Australia, has been diagnosed with Gilmore's Groin - an injury which could rule him out until early in the New Year.
Coulter, who was sent off in Down champions Mayobridge's AIB Ulster club semi-final loss to Antrim outfit St Gall's on Sunday, is understood to have provisionally booked an appointment with renowned surgeon and two-time All-Ireland winning Meath midfielder Gerry McEntee.
'Bridge player/manager Mickey Linden said: "After a single match, Benny's groin could flare up on him quite painfully so we've had to mind him.
"Gilmore's Groin is a standard enough injury now though - a lot of the lads would have had it. It generally involves an eight-week recovery period."
Coulter is likely to sit out Down's McKenna Cup campaign and then return for the start of the National League in February.
