Two pedestrians killed in overnight road accidents

A 12-year-old boy and a 28-year-old man have died in separate overnight road accidents in Limerick and Dublin.

The boy died after being knocked down by a car at Daly's Cross in Limerick at around 10.20pm, while the man died when he was struck by a Bus Eireann coach at the N4-M50 interchange in Dublin just before 8pm.

The deaths came at the end of a weekend of carnage on Ireland's roads, with eight people killed overall.

The worst of the crashes happened in Stradbally, Co Laois, on Saturday morning, when two men and a woman died after their car collided with a truck.

A 20-year-old, a 21-year-old woman and a man in his 40s were also killed in separate accidents in Co Louth, Co Galway and Co Dublin on Friday and Saturday.
