Teachers criticise third-level feeder school tables

Secondary school teachers are criticising university entry tables published by the Irish Times today.

The tables list the top 25 feeder schools for third-level institutions, based on the proportion of their Leaving Cert students who go on to university or college.

The Association of Secondary Teachers has said the figures are unfair because they fail to reflect the fact that some schools cater for more special-needs and disadvantaged pupils than others.

The ASTI said it was obvious that schools which are selective about their pupils would do better in such studies.
