Gunners edge thrilling first half

Wigan 2 Arsenal 3

Wigan’s six-match winning streak in the Barclays Premiership was in danger of coming to an end following an enthralling first half of their sell-out clash with Arsenal at the JJB Stadium.

The Gunners, without an away win in the league this season, raced into a two-goal lead by the midway point of the first half with goals from Robin van Persie – courtesy of a howler from John Filan – and Thierry Henry.

Henri Camara hauled Wigan back into the game with a fine diving header, only for Henry to restore the two-goal cushion with a 25-yard free-kick four minutes before the break, but with Jimmy Bullard keeping Latics’ hopes alive with a fine injury-time strike.
