Long-term unemployment figures still worryingly high
18/11/2005 - 12:24:44Ireland continues to have high levels of long-term unemployment, according to figures published today by the Central Statistics Office.
The CSO said the number of people signing on decreased by almost 3,000 in the six months between May and October, but just 260 of those who found jobs had been unemployed for more than a year.
Just over 29% of the people on the Live Register are now classed as long-term unemployed, compared to 28.7% in April of this year.
The largest percentage of long-term unemployed are in the 45-54 age group and the smallest percentage are in the 25-34 age group.
