Straw: EU budget deal 'difficult to reach'

Britain's Foreign Secretary Jack Straw said today that reaching a deal on a long-term EU budget in December would be “extremely difficult”.

Addressing the European Parliament in Strasbourg, Straw said Britain would make a new proposal for a 2007-2013 budget in early December.

He said any proposed changes to the draft must be seen as fair and balanced by all EU member states.
