Talabani urges Muslim scholars to condemn terrorism
15/11/2005 - 10:19:54Iraqi President Jalal Talabani today appealed for Muslim scholars and clerics to issue stronger denunciations against terrorism.
Speaking at a Vienna conference on Islam’s global roles, Talabani said it was the duty of Islamic theologians and intellectuals to condemn terrorism and make sure “these criminals have no peace”.
Talabani also challenged widespread European opposition to the US-led war, saying it was the only option to end the brutality of Saddam Hussein’s regime.
Earlier, Afghan President Hamid Karzai blamed foreign influences such as al-Qaida for aiding the insurgency against his government.
