Musgrave wins environmental award
Musgrave Group has been presented a President’s Award by the Chambers of Commerce of Ireland (CCI) in recognition of the company’s environmental initiative.
The award recognizes the Cork company’s nationwide programme of environmental initiatives and its practical work in areas such as transport, energy efficiency and recycling.
Musgrave Group is the only private company in Ireland, and the only supermarket group, with an Environmental Charter which addresses environmental impact in six areas of the business including waste management, communications, transport, supplies and products, reporting and buildings.
Welcoming the CCI Award, Chris Martin, CEO of Musgrave Group, said: "By moving towards best practice in environmental issues, we have also made savings in the company’s cost base.
"For example, we increased recycling from 9% in 2001 to 63% this year and waste management cost savings of up to 60% have been achieved in some locations, with overall savings estimated to be in the region of €1.75m annually."
