Eircom revenue and profits up

15/11/2005 - 08:20:50
Eircom has announced revenue of €802m for the half-year to September 30, 2005, up from €800m last year.

Pre-tax profits on the disposal of property were around €47m, with about €59m in cash received.

Group operating profit was €180m, compared to €89m for the same period last year.

During the period in question, Eircom acquired mobile-phone company Meteor, and increased sales and marketing spend and discount to drive DSL and Talktime packages.

Chief executive Phil Nolan said: “This has been a good half-year for the company. The highlight has been our return to the mobile market with the acquisition of Meteor (subject to regulatory approval), funded through a successful rights issue.

“We have also continued to grow broadband numbers to over 184,000 subscribers today, increased the number of access lines, and developed new products such as an enterprise VOIP offering, to be launched later this week.

“This excellent strategic progress has been underpinned by a very solid operating performance.”
