IRB commissioner cites Nonu

14/11/2005 - 14:49:46
All Black centre Ma’a Nonu has been cited by the International Rugby Board for his dangerous spear-tackle on Gordon D’Arcy during Saturday’s Test at Lansdowne.

Ireland coach Eddie O’Sullivan said after the game that although he was appalled by the tackle he would not be citing the offending player as the tackle had happened in full view and he was happy to leave the question of further action to the relevant authorities.

The match referee Jonathan Kaplan merely penalised Nonu at the time, ruling that a card was not warranted, however the decision of the IRB citing commissioner now means the incident will be looked at again.

The hearing will take place tomorrow evening.
