Goalkeeper worry for Cork City

14/11/2005 - 15:16:30
Michael Devine is Cork City’s only doubt for their sell-out eircom League showdown with Derry City at Turner’s Cross on Friday night.

The league’s top goalkeeper has a touch of the ‘flu and could miss one or two training sessions until later during the week.

“Mick is the only one in the team causing me a little concern today. He has a bout of the ‘flu but I am sure he will be fit to play against Derry at the weekend,” said Damien Richardson, whose wife Rita, daughters Tara and Andrea along with his brother Des will be guests of the club for Friday’s league decider.

“It’s been big game after big game for us all year and this is very definitely the biggest game of the season for us now.

“We can win the league on Friday if we win the last game of the season. We are 90 minutes away from the title and that’s all the motivation we need,” said Richardson as the 33-match domestic league season, as expected, comes down to the wire.

Richardson will weigh up his options this week but even if John O’Flynn is passed fit he may start on the bench.

The City boss may be tempted to go with an unchanged team after the 0-0 draw at Shelbourne with Roy O’Donovan in attack and Billy Woods on the left wing in a 4-4-2 set-up.

Derry have full-back Sean Hargan (foot) and centre-half Clive Delaney (knee) on the treatment table but Gary Beckett and Killian Brennan both made substitute appearances in the 2-0 win over St. Pat’s on Saturday night.

Midfielder Barry Molloy, red carded against Bray Wanderers, is suspended but Irish U21 star Kevin Deery played the 90 minutes against St. Pat’s and looks set to start in Cork.
