Hospital insists it is working to stamp out drug-dealing

14/11/2005 - 11:35:57
St James's Hospital in Dublin has insisted that it is working to stamp out the problem of drug dealing on its premises.

In a statement to the media this morning, the hospital said it took the issue very seriously and had been working for some time to eradicate the problem.

The statement was issued in response to media reports that drug dealing is rife within St James's and two other leading hospitals in Dublin.

The reports were based on comments made by the co-ordinators of a treatment service for cocaine addicts.

St James's said it had been working with Gardai to tackle drug-dealing for "some considerable time" and had implemented a range of measures to improve security.

However, it said its efforts are hampered by the fact that the hospital grounds have a constant flow of traffic throughout the day.
