Four killed in weekend crashes
Four people have died in road accidents in Ireland over the weekend, bringing the total number of deaths on the country’s roads this year to 336.
A motorcyclist was killed in a head-on crash with another vehicle in Broomfield, near Castleblaney, Co Monaghan, at around 3pm yesterday afternoon.
A pillion passenger was seriously injured in the accident and was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, where he remains in a critical condition.
The motorcyclist was named as 33-year-old Paul Leonard, of Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh.
Elsewhere, a 21-year-old man died when the car he was driving veered off the road and into a ditch at Clonroche, near Enniscorthy, Co Wexford, yesterday. He was named as James O’Leary, from Rathnure.
In a separate crash, Grace Aylward, 20, from Mullinavat, Co Kilkenny, was killed when the car she was driving hit a wall at Williamstown, Co Waterford, at around 2pm on Friday.
Also on Friday, a 14-year-old boy, Tungi Olatungi, died when he was in collision with an articulated lorry on his way to school in Tralee, Co Kerry.
