Double murder 'linked to gangland feud'
Gardaí were today investigating links between a double murder in a south-west Dublin suburb and a bitter gangland feud which has claimed six lives.
Two men were shot in the head at point-blank range as they sat in a silver Lexus car in the Carrigwood area of Firhouse.
The attack took place in the quiet suburb at around 9.40pm last night.
A garda spokeswoman said detectives were examining whether the victims had been lured to the area by their killers.
The pair had driven into a cul-de-sac on the estate, followed by two men in a separate car.
When the men stopped their car at the roadside, the armed attackers jumped from their vehicle and shot the two men at point-blank range as they sat in the front seats.
Detectives are examining whether the attack was linked to a wider dispute among drugs gangs in the west Dublin area.
The two dead men are believed to be in their late 20s and early 30s and from the Drimnagh and Crumlin areas.
They are the latest victims of the gangland war which dates back almost four years and left six people dead after a falling-out between two drug dealers.
The garda spokeswoman added a BMW 5 series car, believed to have been used in the attack, was found burnt out in the neighbouring Glenvarra estate.
Both scenes remained sealed off today as teams from the Garda Technical Bureau arrived to carry out forensic examinations.
The two bodies were also still at the scene, with State Pathologist Marie Cassidy due to carry out initial investigations.
Gardaí from Tallaght and Crumlin who are conducting the investigation have appealed for anyone who may have seen anything at the time of the shooting or were in the Carrigwood or Glenvarra estates between 9.30pm and 10.30pm last night to come forward.
