More US soldiers die in Iraq
Two United States marines were killed in combat and a soldier died in a vehicle accident in Iraq, the military said in a statement today.
The marines were assigned to Regimental Combat Team 8, 2nd Marine Division and died when their vehicle was attacked with an improvised explosive device in Al Amiriyah on Saturday, a statement said.
In a separate incident, the military said a soldier assigned to Regimental Combat Team 2, 2nd Marine Division died on Saturday in a traffic accident near Rawah. A number if US Army soldiers are assigned to assist in marine operation in western Iraq.
The identities and exact units of the deceased was withheld pending notification of the next of kin.
As of today, at least 2,065 members of the US military have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count. At least 1,604 died as a result of hostile action, according to the military’s numbers. The figures include five military civilians.
