Derry City will be crowned eircom League Champions if they avoid defeat at Turner’s Cross next Friday after first-half goals from Peter Hutton and Clive Delaney won this game to put the Candystripes a point clear of Cork City at the top of the table.
Derry survived Gerard Rowe hitting their bar to take the lead on 29 minutes when Delaney headed down a Paddy McCourt corner for Hutton to volley home from close range.
Delaney then sealed the win with a towering header from Kevin Deery’s corner seven minutes later.
Saints almost got back into it six minutes into the second half, but Alan Reilly’s shot rattled Derry’s crossbar for a second time.
