Lorry driver sought over schoolboy's death

Gardaí are today seeking a lorry driver whose vehicle ran over a 14-year-old schoolboy in Tralee this morning.

Officers believe the motorist may not be aware of the incident with the victim, who later died in Kerry General Hospital.

The accident happened in Clash on the outskirts of the town at around 8.45am this morning as the boy was walking to school with friends.

It is believed the boy may have tripped or fallen under the wheels of the articulated lorry.

The boy was rushed to Kerry General Hospital where he was pronounced dead

A port mortem examination will be carried out later.

A garda spokesman said: “We are appealing for assistance in tracing the driver of the lorry who they believe may be unaware that he was involved in the accident.

Witnesses to the incident are also asked to contact Tralee Gardaí at 066-71 22022.
