Man jailed for fathering four children with sister
A court has jailed a man who has fathered four children with his sister for incest on Thursday in a case that has sparked calls for Germany to follow other countries in axing its incest laws.
The court in the eastern city of Leipzig convicted the 28-year-old man, identified only as Patrick S, and sentenced him to two and a half years in jail.
His sister, Susan K, 21, was placed under the supervision of social services for a year.
Defence lawyers said they wanted to bring the case to the supreme court.
It was unclear whether the couple from Zwenkau in Saxony state would appeal the verdict.
The man was given up for adoption when he was four and only met his sister in 2000, starting a relationship which has already brought him two convictions for incest.
Legal experts have called for Germany to follow the example of countries including France, Turkey, Japan and Brazil in amending its laws so that consensual sexual relations between adult relatives are no longer an offence.
