Indian airports on alert after terror warning

10/11/2005 - 11:16:54
Airports in India were on a state of high alert today after intelligence reports warned of a possible suicide bombing or hijacking.

The Home Ministry issued a general alert late yesterday, singling out Bombay airport and calling for stepped up security, said the Press Trust of India news agency.

A Home Ministry spokesman was not immediately available for comment.

Press Trust of India said the alert was issued following an intelligence intercept suggesting militants might carry out a suicide attack or hijack a plane.

Extra barricades were set up and patrols increased at airports across the country, the agency reported.
