King back in England training
Tottenham defender Ledley King was back in training today with England as he looked to prove his fitness for Saturday’s friendly against Argentina.
King, who has been earmarked for the central midfield-holding role in Geneva, missed yesterday’s initial training session with a knee injury.
Eriksson would be unwilling to take any risk on King’s fitness, but was encouraged by his return to training and his condition will be reassessed ahead of the flight to Geneva.
As a result, all 23 members of the squad were taking part in today’s session at Manchester United’s Carrington base.
Frank Lampard, who missed yesterday’s session, as he was slightly “under the weather”, was fully involved as Eriksson looked to finalise his line up for Saturday’s game.
If King is confirmed as being fit enough to start, he would be likely to sit at the base of a midfield diamond, also incorporating Lampard, Steven Gerrard and David Beckham.
Eriksson’s main selection decisions revolve around his choice of centre-back - Rio Ferdinand or Sol Campbell to partner John Terry – and at left-back between Wayne Bridge, Paul Konchesky and Phil Neville.
