Many mothers believe children have harmed their careers

One-third of working mothers believe they are less likely to be promoted since having a child, according to an opinion poll published this morning.

One-fifth of full-time working mothers who took part in the Irish Examiner/Lansdowne poll also said they had been asked about family and childcare during performance reviews.

Only a quarter of women said they returned to full-time work after the birth of a child, with a further quarter changing to part-time hours.

Elsewhere, the survey also found that around three-quarters of pre-school children with full-time working parents spend only three or four hours with their parents on working days.
