Poll: Govt has failed to address childcare issue
09/11/2005 - 07:50:43The overwhelming majority of voters believe the Government has failed to properly address the issue of childcare, according to an opinion poll published this morning.
The Irish Examiner said 84% of respondents to the poll believed the Government had failed to deal with the matter, while just 10% said they regarded childcare as reasonably affordable.
Almost half of the parents surveyed were in favour of a 1% increase in the standard rate of tax to fund childcare improvements.
A large majority also want State payments to stay-at-home parents and tax relief for working parents forced to pay for childcare.
