Poll: Govt has failed to address childcare issue

The overwhelming majority of voters believe the Government has failed to properly address the issue of childcare, according to an opinion poll published this morning.

The Irish Examiner said 84% of respondents to the poll believed the Government had failed to deal with the matter, while just 10% said they regarded childcare as reasonably affordable.

Almost half of the parents surveyed were in favour of a 1% increase in the standard rate of tax to fund childcare improvements.

A large majority also want State payments to stay-at-home parents and tax relief for working parents forced to pay for childcare.
