INTO demands Budget action to address class sizes
09/11/2005 - 07:37:08The Irish National Teachers Organisation has demanded action to address primary school class sizes in the upcoming Budget.
In its pre-Budget submission, the primary teachers' union claims Irish classrooms are the second most crowded in Europe.
It says more than one-third of primary pupils in Dublin are in classes of more than 30 children.
The INTO also wants the Government to set up a programme to provide hot meals to primary children in disadvantaged areas and to set dates for the start of building works at schools with substandard accommodation.
