Xavier set for personal hearing - report

08/11/2005 - 07:41:22
Abel Xavier will go before a UEFA disciplinary committee next week after reports suggested the Middesbrough’s defender’s B sample tested positive for a performance-enhancing drug.

The 32-year-old was suspended last month after it was revealed he had failed a drug test, although he insisted he never intentionally “doped” himself.

UEFA treat each case on an individual basis, and the former Portugal international could be handed a ban from the game.

“The hearing will take place on November 17,” a UEFA spokesman told The Times.

“We can confirm that the B sample has confirmed the original findings and that Xavier has been charged with taking a banned substance known as Dianabol. He will have a personal hearing.”
