Support group seeks national strategy for carers

The Carers Association has called on the Government to develop a national strategy for caring in the community.

In its pre-budget submission, the association also said a tax-relief system should be put in place to cover expenses incurred by carers.

An estimated 150,000 Irish people care for sick or elderly friends and relatives, but just one-sixth of them get a weekly allowance of €153.
