Cork go top after win at Rovers
Shamrock Rovers 0 Cork City 2
Rovers finished with nine men as goals from Roy O’Donovan and Joe Gamble earned Cork their seventh win from seven in Dublin this season to regain the leadership of the Premier Division table.
In a good, open game despite the conditions, Rovers’ cleared off the line from George O’Callaghan early on before Michael Devine pushed a Marc Kenny shot onto a post at the other end.
Cork took the lead with a well worked goal on 41 minutes when Neale Fenn picked out O’Donovan who squeeze a shot home from a tight angle.
Gamble finished off a super move to add the second goal on 54 minutes before Ciaran Foley was the first Rovers’ player to see red three minutes later.
Kenny was also sent off on 76 minutes as Rovers face into Friday’s must-win clash with Waterford with serious suspension problems.
