Knight to appeal Towcester ruling
Henrietta Knight is to appeal to the Jockey Club against the punishment she received over the running and riding of Harringay at Towcester.
The Wantage trainer was fined £1,000 (€1,500) and the horse banned for 40 days following the two-mile novice hurdle.
“I am going to appeal. It’s in the hands of my solicitor and he’s going to lodge it,” said Knight. “Nothing has changed in my mind since yesterday.”
The stewards ruled the mare had been “tenderly ridden” when beaten 13 and a half lengths in fifth place and fined Knight, as well as suspending jockey Timmy Murphy for 14 days.
The five-year-old has had a history of wind problems and is set to be out longer than the length of the ban (November 8 to December 17) to receive treatment.
Harringay had not raced since finishing eighth at Newbury in April and had one win from her six starts prior to yesterday, with that success coming on her debut in a bumper at Huntingdon in March last year.
Murphy, who was banned for 14 days, lodged his appeal with the Jockey Club earlier today. Any hearing will have to take place before Murphy’s suspension, which is due to start on November 14.
