Berlusconi says suicide attack was planned against him
Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi said in comments published today that he was the subject of a planned suicide terrorist attack.
“I am the object of a direct threat,” Berlusconi said in an interview with Italian daily Libero.
“A suicide bomber in the stadium against me.”
Berlusconi did not give details of a possible attack, and his office in Rome declined to comment on the premier’s comments. He made the comments while explaining his position on Iraq – repeating recent statements he was against the war and only sent troops to help the rebuilding effort.
Berlusconi owns Serie A soccer team AC Milan, and frequently watches games at Milan’s San Siro stadium, including a match last Saturday.
The ANSA news agency reported that Milan prosecutors were unaware of any such threat.
