NIB to suggest proposals for averting postal strike

03/11/2005 - 07:22:23
The National Implementation Body is expected to put forward proposals aimed at averting strike action at An Post today.

The Communications Workers Union is planning to engage in industrial action from tomorrow in pursuit of pay increases due under the Sustaining Progress agreement.

The Labour Court has ruled that the wage rises be linked to reform of work practices.

However, the CWU has rejected this, saying the Sustaining Progress increases were designed to meet the rising cost of living and should not be linked to productivity.

The NIB, which was set up to ensure compliance with social partnership agreements, held separate talks with the CWU and An Post management yesterday.

It is expected to contact them again today with proposals to avert strike action, but it is unclear whether the move will have any success.
