ISME seeks measures to combat crime against businesses
03/11/2005 - 14:11:19The Irish Small and Medium Enterprises Association has called for increased garda resources and a review of the judicial system in order to combat crime against businesses.
The association said a survey it carried out found that half of small firms were affected by crime in the past year, with theft, burglary and vandalism the most common complaints.
More than three-quarters of retail outlets involved in the survey said they had been victims of some form of criminal activity in the past 12 months.
ISME said crime was costing small companies €2bn annually and just 2% had any confidence in the judicial system to deter repeated criminal activity.
