Crew escapes liner blaze
02/11/2005 - 07:13:08Nearly 60 crew members escaped a fire which raged aboard a Panamanian-flagged passenger liner off Egypt’s Red Sea coast.
Fifty-eight crew members escaped into other vessels, a port official said.
It was unclear what caused last night’s fire, which quickly spread out of control through the Al-Kahfain.
No passengers were aboard the ship, which was heading from the port city of Suez for Saudi Arabia, but caught fire off the coast of Hurghada, 225 miles to the south.
Thirty crew members were rescued by other ships while 28 escaped into life rafts.
One crew member was injured and treated aboard another ship.
