Canning nets Connacht award
02/11/2005 - 12:43:01Galway hurling prodigy Joe Canning has been selected as the TF Royal Hotel Connacht GAA Writers' Personality of the Month for September.
Canning, who only turned 17 on October 11, has been in outstanding form for the Galway minors and his club Portumna in recent weeks.
A younger brother of Galway defender Ollie, Canning cracked home a goal and three points as the Tribesmen retained their All-Ireland minor title against Limerick on September 11.
The Portumna Community School student, who could become only the second player to ever win three All-Ireland minor hurling medals next year, continued his impressive form last month - scoring 2-9 in Portumna's Galway SHC quarter-final win over Carnmore and 0-12 against Gort in their semi-final clash.
