Luxury transatlantic service takes off
A transatlantic luxury airline battle commenced today when the second of two competing carriers took off from Stansted airport in England for New York.
Last month American-owned Eos began Stansted-New York business class-only services and today rival Maxjet started its own UK-US service.
While Eos is using Boeing 757s with just 48 seats, Maxjet is flying Boeing 767s with 102 seats.
Eos is charging £2,500 (€3,600) for London-New York round trips until January, when the price goes up to £3,500 (€5,100). This is in contrast to Maxjet’s prices, which start at £854 (€1,200) return, including taxes.
Maxjet is aiming at business travellers as well as those who want a premium leisure service.
Customers will enjoy a 60-inch seat pitch, in-house entertainment centre and four-course meals.
Maxjet chief executive Gary Rogliamo said at Stansted today: “The launch of Maxjet begins a new era in business class travel. We are dedicated to creating a smarter way to fly and we intend to constantly evolve to meet all business class travellers’ needs.”
