Dempsey in fresh bid to broker An Post talks
01/11/2005 - 08:07:05Minister for Communications Noel Dempsey has cancelled a trip to Washington in an effort to broker fresh talks to resolve the An Post dispute.
The Communications Workers Union has served strike notice on the company in pursuit of outstanding pay increases due under the Sustaining Progress agreement.
The Labour Court has ruled that the increases should be paid in return for reform of work practices, but the CWU has refused to accept this outcome.
It is threatening to engage in industrial action from this Friday, with a series of limited work stoppages the most likely form of protest.
