ISEQ off to positive start

The ISEQ index of Irish shares got off to a positive start this morning and was up 23.33 points to 6599.56 by 11am.

The financials enjoyed mixed fortunes. Bank of Ireland soared 17c to €12.80 and Anglo Irish Bank rose 5c to €11.35. AIB fell 8c to €17.54 and Irish Life and Permanent also slipped, falling 5c to €14.65.

Pharmaceutical company Elan rose 10c to €6.85.

Construction companies also recorded increases this morning. Grafton rose 18c to €840, McInerney Holdings rose 12c to €8.50 and Kingspan rose 10c to €9.70. CRH however fell 4c to €20.81.

Bookmaker Paddy Power fell 25c to €13.85.
