Irish takeover of Aston Villa looks likely
Soccer club Aston Villa has confirmed that it has received a takeover approach from an Irish-led consortium, but it has insisted that the proposals are still speculative and no meetings have taken place.
Galway property developers Luke and Brian Comer are leading the bid with businessman Mike Neville who is expected to take over the day-to-day running of the football club, should the deal go ahead.
A statement to the London Stock Exchange confirmed that the directors of Aston Villa plc have received a preliminary approach from Mr Neville on behalf of a consortium group, which could lead to an offer for the company.
Sports reporter Elliot Cook said fans will expect a lot from any new owners and they will want them to “splash the cash” in the same way that Roman Abramovich has done for Chelsea.
