Ayr abandoned

Officials at Ayr were forced to abandon today’s meeting as rain continued to fall at the Scottish track.

Although it had passed a 6.30am inspection this morning after having an almost dry night, rain started again, making the ground unsafe.

“I am afraid we have had three-and-a-half millimetres in half an hour and it is still raining,” said clerk of the course Anthea Morshead.

“We have been out and had a look and there are areas of false ground. It is treacherous in the back straight so we have had no choice but to abandon.”
