Death toll rises as New Delhi hit by blasts
29/10/2005 - 15:56:15At least 22 people are feared dead in a series of explosions which shook New Delhi today.
The blasts tore through markets jammed with shoppers ahead of a forthcoming Hindu festival, officials said.
A policeman said at least seven people were killed and 60 more were injured in the first explosion, in the central New Delhi neighbourhood of Paharganj. At least 15 people were killed in a blast in the main market in the Sarojini Nagar neighbourhood, New Delhi Television said.
Vir Singh, a spokesman for the city’s fire department, confirmed that there also had been an explosion on a bus in the Govindpuri neighbourhood.
