Chelsea salvage two-goal win from plucky Blackburn

FT: Chelsea 4 Blackburn 2

Second-half goals from Frank Lampard and Joe Cole ensured Chelsea would not pay the penalty for throwing away a two-goal lead against Blackburn at Stamford Bridge.

Two goals inside the first 13 minutes from Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard had put Chelsea on course for a rout but a brace from Wales striker Craig Bellamy - his second courtesy of a dreadful error from Blues ’keeper Petr Cech – had levelled matters by the interval.

Lampard rescued the Blues with a superb second-half free-kick – the 100th league goal of his career – and a fourth from Joe Cole ensured Mourinho’s men maintained their healthy lead at the top of the Barclays Premiership table.

Chelsea were now in an unstoppable mood and Joe Cole added a decisive fourth in the 74th minute when his 20-yard shot took a violent deflection off the foot of Khizanishvili.

However, the champions almost conceded a third moments later when Bellamy spurned the chance of a hat-trick by firing over the bar with just Cech to beat.
