Hospital to issue update on Best's condition
29/10/2005 - 08:48:20George Best fans were this morning awaiting an update on the former footballer's condition.
Fifty-nine-year-old George Best is seriously ill and fighting for his life.
He is on a ventilator in intensive care at Cromwell Hospital in London, where he was admitted three weeks ago with an infection.
A hospital spokesperson said yesterday evening that his condition "remained unchanged". He had earlier "improved slightly" but he remained "seriously ill".
Best's latest health problems are thought to be related to immuno-suppressant drugs he has been taking since his liver transplant in 2002.
The drugs are designed to stop the new organ being rejected.
