Dublin woman's murder: Man remanded

A man was today charged with the murder of a shop owner in Dublin city centre.

John O’Neill, (aged 55), from Dublin, appeared in Bridewell District Court where he was remanded in custody over the death of Rosemary Dowling, who owned a music shop on Aungier Street.

The body of Ms Dowling, who was in her mid-50s and of Home Villas in Donnybrook, was found wrapped in a duvet, tied with a piece of rope, at about 4.15am on Tuesday on the corner of Mercer Street and Aungier Place.

Detective Sergeant Mick Fitzgerald told the court Mr O’Neill was charged at 10.46am by Sergeant Seamus Clarke in Harcourt Terrace garda station.

Detective Sergeant Fitzgerald said the accused had nothing to say when charged with murder and was cautioned.

O’Neill was remanded to Cloverhill Prison to reappear in court on Friday, November 4.
