Vinny Sullivan was the Waterford hero as his first half winner lifted Blues out of the bottom two to inflict a second successive defeat on title-chasing Derry.
Blues stunned Derry with their 17th minute lead when Sullivan’s terrific lob caught Robert Forde off his line.
Mark Farren almost had Derry level within a minute but fried narrowly wide.
Derry threw everything at Blues throughout the second half, but the Suirsiders held on for a huge win.
