28/10/2005 - 18:16:47
Belfast aerospace company Shorts moved to reassure its workforce over job security today as its Canadian parent company announced it was suspending production of one of its range of regional jets.

The Bombardier CRJ200 is partially built in Belfast.

Production is to be temporarily suspended in mid-January to “realign its production to the current market outlook” for 50-seater regional jets, said an announcement from Montreal.

In Belfast management said they did not anticipate any increase in potential redundancies of 230 previously announced in August.

The company said it were actively exploring all possible opportunities to reduce the number of potential job losses and no decision had yet been taken to lodge formal redundancy notice.
