€4.4bn rise in borrowed money
28/10/2005 - 12:15:41September was the fastest month for credit growth in five years, Central Bank figures revealed today.
The amount of borrowed money rose by almost €4.4bn in the month, the third-highest monthly rise in three years.
Nearly €2bn was taken out in mortgages in September. More than half of the total figure borrowed went towards personal loans, credit cards and overdrafts.
These latest figures lend some support to a report earlier this week that personal debt in Ireland is the third-highest in the euro-zone.
