IMO say health budget must improve A&E crisis

The Irish Medical Organisation has asked the Government to focus on elderly care, the A&E crisis, and bed shortages when allocating funding in the upcoming budget.

The group, which represents doctors in Ireland, has published a number of specific recommendations, including an increase in the number of public nursing-home beds for the elderly and an emphasis on home-based care packages for them.

Doctors called for an increase in the number of acute-care hospital beds to the tune of three-thousand, to bring the total number to fifteen thousand.

In relation to the A&E crisis, the IMO said that more consultants were needed and that staff should be focused on how to deal with alcohol-related injuries and cases.
