Vehicle registrations up in September
There were 7,475 new private cars licensed in September, 2005 compared with 7,388 in September, 2004, an increase of 1.2%.
In the first nine months of 2005, there were 154,170 new private cars licensed, an increase of 11.7% on the corresponding period last year.
First licensing of second-hand private cars increased by 1,467 (71.9%) on the same month last year and increased by 13,263 (91.1%) in the year to date.
New goods vehicles licensed increased by 240 (9.7%) in September, 2005 when compared with September, 2004, and increased by 6,710 (25.8%) in the first nine months of 2005 by comparison with the same period last year.
The vehicle licensing figures also show that:
* In the period January-September 2005, the total number of all vehicles licensed was 244,829 compared with 204,561 in the same period last year, an increase of 19.7%.
* The highest number of new private cars licensed in September, classified by make are Volkswagen (1,038), followed by Toyota (849), Ford
(776), Opel (526), Nissan (453) and Peugot (410).
